Red Dot Studios is a new business now open in Tallaght, and as an opening offer, they are making the studio available to photographers at a discounted rate.

The studio has an area of 48 sq metres, and also has a separate dressing area/make up room.

Photos should measure 10×8 inches or thereabouts with a resolution of 300dpi.

Saltee Islands Trip

The annual club trip to the Saltee Islands will take place on June 29th. Provisionally, one boat(12 places) has been booked, but another will be available should numbers exceed this. The cost will be €25 per person and places can be booked by adding your name to the list on Wednesday nights or email trudy.stafford@hotmail.com

John Thorpe Nature Photographer of the Year Competition

Entries are now been accepted for the John Thorpe Nature Photographer of the Year, which is open to all club members. The criteria for the competition are that three images are to be submitted and FIAP nature rules will apply, with Advanced, Intermediate and Novice competing against each other. Images should measure 3600 pixels on the long side and 2400 on the short side. The can be emailed to competitions@palmerstowncameraclub.ie clearly indicating that they are for the John Thorpe competition or brought along to the club ASAP on a memory stick.

Closing date is Wednesday May 29th.

Winner will be announced at the annual exhibition on June 21st.

F I A P Nature Rules
Nature photography depicts living, untamed animals and uncultivated plants in a natural habitat, geology and the wide diversity of natural phenomena, from insects to icebergs.
Photographs of animals, which are domesticated, caged or under any form of restraint, as well as photographs of cultivated plants are ineligible.

Minimal evidence of humans is acceptable for nature subjects, such as barn owls or storks adapting to an environment modified by humans, or natural forces, like hurricanes or tidal waves, reclaiming it.

The photographer, whatever photographic medium is used, must have taken the original image. Any manipulation or modification to the original image is limited to minor retouching of blemishes and must not alter the content of the original scene. After satisfying the previous requirements, every effort should be made to use the highest level of artistic skill in all nature photographs.

Club Yearbook Details

Following on from my introduction about the photo yearbook for the camera club I am now accepting images for inclusion in the book from all members including those we may not have seen in a while.

I am asking that everybody interested in having images included in the book to send me two images sized to 10 x 8 and the resolution at 300 pixels/inch. Remember that the images will be seen by everybody that gets to see the book so try and send me images that you feel are your best work for the year and that will represent you as a photographer.

If you have any problems with cropping or sizing your images, let me know and I’ll help you with it.

I am hoping that the book will cost no more than between €25 – €30. It will all depend on the number of club members that are interested in having their images included in the book. The more books we order the cheaper it gets. The book will be subsidized by the club but again the subsidy will depend on how many books we order. Also, if you submit images for inclusion in the book you are agreeing to buy a copy of the book.

It is envisaged that we will have the book produced for distribution at our annual exhibition. In order to have the book edited and published before the end of the year exhibition, I will need to have all images submitted to me no later than Friday 24th May.

So go get your two most fantastic images selected and send them to me at this email address as soon as you can. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
