Result! Swim a mile with a smile.

So, by way of update Packy completed his 2 mile swim (3,200m /128 lenghts) on Thursday  morning 26th April. He did  it in a time of 1 hour ….. and 12 seconds – just twelve seconds outside his target time!!

Any financial support his friends in PCC would be greatly appreciated by the children at Barrettstown and the Children’s Hospital Crumlin.

Well done Packy!

Swim a mile with a smile charity appeal!

An appeal on behalf of club member Packy Macguire.

Every year at this time, the Daly family from Celbridge organise a nationwide fundraising event in memory of their son, Ian, who lost his battle with cancer a few years ago. This popular event is calledSwim a Mile With a Smile”, and to date it has rised over €384,000 in much needed funds for Barretstown camp for seriously ill children and for the Children’s Cancer Research fund in Crumlin Children’s Hospital.

The goal is firstly to participate, and secondly to set challenges, and see if you can overcome them – so it doesn’t have to be a mile, it can be any distance. People of ages, the young and not so young, from all over the country take part as individuals, or as relays – or whatever.

I first started swimming in Jan 2008, and this will be my 5th swim a mile event – having completed it every year since I started swimming. This time however, I want to up the ante, and literally “go the extra mile”.

I hope to complete 2 miles in Clondalkin pool on Thursday 26th April starting at 07:00.

That’s 3,200mtrs or 128 lengths of the pool … and I’d like to complete it within the hour.

I appreciate this opportunity to ask our PCC members for their support. I fully realise that this is a sensitive request, as I’m sure there are many people doing a great deal of fundraising for a wide range of causes.

Kind regards,
Packy
